In a previous work, the first author of the present paper under review proved a precise law of the iterated logarithm (LIL) for the discrepancy of sequences of the form \((\theta^k x)_{k \geq 1}\) [\textit{K. Fukuyama}, Acta Math. Hung. 118, No. 1--2, 155--170 (2008; Zbl 1241.11090)]. The value \(\sigma_\theta\) of the limsup depends on number-theoretic properties of \(\theta\) in a very sensitive and interesting way, and is generally different from the value 1/2, which appears in the i.i.d. case. In the present paper, it is shown that any value from \([1/2, \sigma_\theta]\) can appear as the a.e. limsup in the LIL for an appropriate subsequence of \((\theta^k x)_{k \geq 1}\). In particular, the largest possible value (among all potential subsequences) is obtained by taking the original sequence \((\theta^k x)_{k \geq 1}\).
