    Under consideration is the generalized Gierer-Meinhardt or activator-inhibitor model described by \[ u_{t}-d\Delta u+\mu u=\frac{u^{p}}{v^{q}}+ \rho(x),\;v_{t}-D\Delta v+\nu u=\frac{v^{r}}{u^{s}}, \quad x\in \Omega\subset {\mathbb R}^{n},\;t>0, \eqno{(1)} \] \[ \;u|_{t=0}=u_{0}(x)>0,\;v|_{t=0}=v_{0}(x)>0, \;u=v=0,\quad x\in \Omega, t>0. \eqno{(2)} \] All constants \(d,D, r,s,\mu,\nu,p,q\) in (1) are positive and \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain with smooth boundary. The classical solvability in Hölder classes of the problem (1), (2) is proven under the conditions \(D>d\), \((p -1)(s + 1) < rq < \max\{2r + (s -1)(p - 1), (p + 1)(s +1)-2q\}\), \(p>q\), \(r>s\), \(r>p-1\), \(u_{0},v_{0}\) are sufficiently smooth, the consistency conditions hold, \(\rho(x)\geq 0\), and \(u_{0}(x),v_{0}(x)\geq \varepsilon_{0}\varphi(x)\), where \(\varphi(x)\) is the first eigenfunction of the Laplacian with the Dirichlet boundary condition which is positive in \(\Omega\), and \(\varepsilon_{0}>0\) is some constant. Similar results are presented in the case \(D=d\), where the conditions on \(p,q,r,s\) can be weakened and the result on classical solvability is complemented with a generalized solvability theorem.
