Symmetric functionals on simply generated symmetric spaces

From MaRDI portal

The authors investigate symmetric functionals on a broad class of symmetric spaces associated with semi-finite von Neumann algebras. Let \((\mathcal M,\tau)\) be a semi-finite von Neumann algebra on a Hilbert sapce \(H\), equipped with a faithful normal semi-finite trace \(\tau\). Denote by \(S(\mathcal M,\tau)\) and \(S_0(\mathcal M,\tau)\) the measurable operators and compact operators associated with \(\tau\), respectively. For any \(X\in S(\mathcal M,\tau)\), let \(\mu(t,X)\) \((t>0)\) denote the generalized singular value function. Given a decreasing function \(g:(0,+\infty)\to(0,+\infty)\) vanishing at \(+\infty\) that satisfies \N\[\N\sup\limits_{t>0}\frac{g(t)}{g(2t)}\leq C,\N\]\Nwe define the symmetric space \N\[\N\mathcal L_g(\mathcal M,\tau)= \Bigl\{ X\in S(\mathcal M,\tau):\|X\|_{\mathcal L_g}=\sup\limits_{t>0}\frac{\mu(t,X)}{g(t)} <+\infty \Bigr\}.\N\]\NThis space \((\mathcal L_g(\mathcal M,\tau),\|\cdot\|_{\mathcal L_g}) \) forms a symmetric quasi-normed space. The authors obtain a bijective correspondence between all continuous symmetric functionals on spaces \(\mathcal L_g(\mathcal M,\tau)\) and all continuous \(S_+\)-invariant functionals on a single space \(\ell^{\infty}(\mathbb Z)\). This implies that there exists a bijection between continuous symmetric functionals on any two arbitrary (subject to some mild conditions) simply generated spaces \(\mathcal L_f\) and \(\mathcal L_g\). However, this bijective mapping is not a bijection between classes of Dixmier traces on distinct simply generated spaces \(\mathcal L_f\) and \(\mathcal L_g\). They apply those results to study average spectral asymptotics of integral operators and prove an extension of the Connes trace formula for a wide class of integral operators.
