Based on works of \textit{K. Chan} et al. [Commun. Math. Phys. 341, No. 1, 135--178 (2016; Zbl 1377.53107)] and \textit{Y. Toda} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 360, No. 11, 6149--6178 (2008; Zbl 1225.14030); J. Algebr. Geom. 18, No. 1, 101--133 (2009; Zbl 1157.14025)], the authors further study properties of a pure braid group action on the derived category of coherent sheaves on the conifold smoothing and symplectomorphism groups of the mirror. Their two main theorems state that the (compactly supported) symplectomorphism group \(\pi_0\mathrm{Symp}_c (X,\omega)\) of the mirror \(X\) contains an infinite number of independent (free) elements, and the spherical objects in the derived category \(D(Y)\) of the conifold resolution \(Y\) form a single orbit under the action of the pure braid group \(\mathrm{PBr}_3\).\N\NThe proof is interesting and worth summarizing. Previous work on homological mirror symmetry indicates that the automorphism group of \(D(Y)\) is isomorphic to the automorphism group of the Fukaya category \(\mathcal{W} (X)\), and the B-model calculation shows that the graded symplectic mapping class group \(\pi_0\mathrm{Symp}^{gr} (X)\) surjects onto the automorphism group of \(\mathcal{W} (X)\). The authors then identify the infinitely generated subgroup \(\mathbb{Z}^{\ast\infty}\) of \(\operatorname{Aut}_{SH^0 (X)}\mathcal{W} (X)\) with the symplectomorphisms given by Dehn twists along Lagrangian matching spheres of a given Morse-Bott Lefschetz fibration \(\phi\colon X\to\mathbb{C}\) where there are two singular values with Lagrangian isotopic vanishing Lagrangian tori. They show that these Dehn twists are mirrors to spherical twists by shifts of the structure sheaf of a curve in \(Y\), and the algebro-geometrical computation of the subgroup generated by these spherical twists then implies the split injection.\par The second theorem is proved by showing that all spherical twists of \(D(Y)\) are compositions of Dehn twists by the matching spheres \(S_i\), and this was proved using techniques from the A-side. The classification of spherical objects in the derived category \(D(Y)\), via investigating the pure braid group \(\mathrm{PBr}_3\)-action on the A-side, can be reduced to classifying spherical objects in the smaller subcategory \(\mathcal{C}\) where complexes are cohomologically supported over a curve and has trivial derived pushforward to the small resolution, up to conjugation by an element of the pure braid group. In this case, we can prove that there is a unique spherical object up to shift given by the structure sheaf of the curve. This then concludes the proof of the second theorem.\N\NThe final section of this paper provides several further remarks on the results, and the reviewer is particularly interested in the non-exact deformation case, where the authors prove that deforming the symplectic structure to a non-exact one ``preserves this class of Dehn twists. It's done in a handy way, but the reviewer would like to understand if this can be done in greater generality.
