Trento examples

From MaRDI portal

[For the entire collection see Zbl 0744.00029.] This paper consists of a collection of examples worked out by the participants of the conference at Trento 1990 on classification of irregular varieties. The examples center around two themes: 1. A conjecture by \textit{P. Griffiths} and \textit{J. Harris} [Math. Ann. 271, 31-51 (1985; Zbl 0552.14011)], which says that the degree of a ``fairly general hypersurface in \(\mathbb{P}^ 4\) divides the degree of every curve on it. 2. Given a smooth projective surface with fundamental group \(\Gamma\). Let \(\Delta\) be an extension of \(\Gamma\). Are there surfaces with fundamental group \(\Delta\)?
