Variational discretization for optimal control with measure control
This short article, written in German, deals with the problem of optimal PDE control with measure valued controls. This is an interesting class of problems with many applications. A special property of this setting is that such controls can have sparsity. The carrier of the control is then often an \(m<n\) dimensional sub-manifold of the domain \(\Omega \subset \mathbb R^n\), on which the PDE is defined. In this article, the author uses Hinze's approach of variational discretization to naturally preserve this structure at the discrete level. The concept of variational discretization is not to discretize the control function, but to use the weak form of the equation to obtain an implicit form of the control. The article shows that, depending on the used spaces, concrete statements can be made about the carrier of the measure valued control. By the right choice of the spaces, sparsity can also be achieved in the discrete problem, and the position of the control in the configuration space can be localized exactly.
