Vortex methods

From MaRDI portal

The book is devoted to systematic study in the mathematical theory of vortex methods. In the first chapter, a survey of vortex methods used for the solution of Euler and Navier-Stokes equations is given, including random walk vortex method, variable elliptic vortex method, deterministic particle method, local correction methods and multipole algorithms. In the second chapter, entitled ``Mathematical theory for incompressible flows, all needed definitions for further considerations are introduced. The main part of the book deals with the convergence theorems for the vortex methods. In the third chapter, the convergence for initial and boundary value problems for the Euler equations in two and three dimensions is considered including the full discretization case. Then, in the fourth chapter, the study of the convergence of viscosity splitting is based on the Chorin-Hughes-McCracken-Marsden approach. Finally, the convergence of the random vortex method is considered in the fifth chapter according to a random perturbation of the inviscid vortex method.
