Numerical analysis of nonlinear degenerate parabolic problems with application to eddy current models (Q6171725)

In this paper, the fully discrete finite element approximation is investigated for a class of nonlinear degenerate parabolic problems. To obtain convergence of conforming approximations in space by finite elements and a backward Euler method in time, the authors obtain error estimates for the fully discrete scheme by assuming only a time-regularity of a suitable projection of the solutions. The results ensuring the quasi-optimal convergence of the approximation for numerical solution are provided. As an application of the theory, an eddy current model is studied. Some numerical results are reported that confirm the expected convergence of the method according to the theory.
