The main result of the paper confirms the so called stabilizer conjecture for Galois coverings. The assertion is the following. If \(R\) is a locally bounded representation-tame \(k\)-category, where \(k\) is an algebraically closed field, and \(G\) is a torsion-free group of \(k\)-linear automorphisms of \(R\) acting freely on \(R\) then the stabilizer of every infinite \(G\)-atom \(B\) is an infinite cyclic group. An indecomposable locally finite dimensional \(R\)-module is called an atom if the support of \(B\) consists of finitely many \(G_B\)-orbits, where \(G_B\) is the stabilizer of \(B\) under the action of \(G\). The atom \(B\) is infinite if \(G_B\) is infinite. The stabilizer conjecture was formulated in 1985 by Dowbor and Skowroński. It is one of the most important problems strongly related with the conjecture that given a Galois covering \(F\colon\widetilde A\to A\) (satisfying some natural conditions) \(A\) is tame provided \(\widetilde A\) is tame. The latter conjecture has been confirmed under additional assumptions by \textit{P. Dowbor} and \textit{A. Skowroński} [Comment. Math. Helv. 62, 311-337 (1987; Zbl 0628.16019)]; a confirmation in the general case (by the method of bocses) has been announced by Drozd and Ovsienko. See also \textit{P. Dowbor} [Colloq. Math. 89, No. 2, 241-310 (2001; see the preceding review Zbl 0997.16007)] for other related problems.
