The aim of the paper is to extend the main results of \textit{A. Skowroński} and \textit{K. Yamagata} [Arch. Math. 70, No. 5, 341-350 (1998; Zbl 0915.16005) and Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 132, No. 3, 659-667 (2004; Zbl 1065.16016)] on stable equivalence of selfinjective (Artin \(K\)-)algebras of non Dynkin type to selfinjective algebras of arbitrary tilted type. A central rôle is played by the class of selfinjective orbit algebras \(\widehat B/G\), where \(\widehat B\) is the repetitive algebra [\textit{D. Hughes} and \textit{J. Waschbüsch}, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 46, 347-364 (1983; Zbl 0488.16021)] of an algebra \(B\) and \(G\) is an admissible group of automorphisms of \(\widehat B\). If, in particular, \(\nu_{\widehat B}\) is the Nakayama automorphism of \(\widehat B\), then \(\widehat B/(\nu_{\widehat B})\) is a symmetric algebra and isomorphic to the trivial extension \(T(B)=B\ltimes D(B)\) of \(B\) by \(D(B)\), \(D\) the standard duality. The main results of the paper are the following: 1. Let \(A\) be a selfinjective algebra and \(\Delta\) a Dynkin quiver. Then the following conditions are equivalent: (i) \(A\) is stably equivalent to a selfinjective algebra \(\widehat R/(\psi\nu_{\widehat R})\), where \(R\) is a tilted algebra of type \(\Delta\) and \(\psi\) is a positive automorphism of \(\widehat R\). (ii) \(A\) is socle equivalent to an algebra \(\widehat R/(\psi\nu_{\widehat R})\) as in (i). -- Here, if ``positive automorphism'' is replaced by ``strictly positive automorphism'' then ``socle equivalent'' can be replaced by ``isomorphic''. The same is true if \(K\) is an algebraically closed field. 2. Let \(A\) be a symmetric algebra and \(\Delta\) a Dynkin quiver. Then the following conditions are equivalent: (i) \(A\) is stably equivalent to the trivial extension \(T(B)\) of a hereditary algebra \(B\) of type \(\Delta\). (ii) \(A\) is stably equivalent to the trivial extension \(T(B)\) of a tilted algebra \(B\) of type \(\Delta\). (iii) \(A\) is socle equivalent to the trivial extension \(T(B)\) of a tilted algebra \(B\) of type \(\Delta\). -- Here, ``socle equivalent'' can be replaced by ``isomorphic'', if \(K\) is an algebraically closed field.
