A ring is a right Ore domain if it has no zero divisors and every two elements have a right common multiple. Let \(\mathfrak{R}\) be a right Ore domain with identity. The group inverse of \(M\in\mathfrak{R}^{k\times k}\) is (if it exists) the unique matrix \(M^\sharp\in\mathfrak{R}^{k\times k}\) satisfying \(MM^\sharp M=M\), \(M^\sharp MM^\sharp=M^\sharp\), \(MM^\sharp=M^\sharp M\). Consider a block matrix \[ M=\begin{pmatrix} A&B \\ C&0 \end{pmatrix},\quad A\in\mathfrak{R}^{n\times n},\,B\in\mathfrak{R}^{n\times m},\, C\in\mathfrak{R}^{m\times n}. \] The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of \(M^\sharp\) in the cases (i)~\(A^2=A\) and \(CA=C\), (ii)~\(\mathrm{rank}\,B\geq\mathrm{rank}\,C\) and \(A=DC\), where \(D\in\mathfrak{R}^{n\times m}\). They also present \(M^\sharp\) explicitly under these conditions. The corresponding results for complex matrices, due to \textit{X. Liu} and \textit{H. Yang} [Appl. Math. Comput. 218, No. 17, 8978--8986 (2012; Zbl 1251.15007)], are so extended.
