Bivariant \(K\)-theory has for the last decade and half been successfully studied as a triangulated category. The objects are \(C^*\)-algebra like objects and the morphisms are classes in a suitable bivariant \(K\)-theory. For instance, \textit{R. Meyer} and \textit{R. Nest} [Topology 45, No. 2, 209--259 (2006; Zbl 1092.19004)] reformulated the Baum-Connes conjecture in terms of a property of a localisation of the equivariant \(KK\)-category allowing for an abstract construction of the \(\gamma\)-element. Kasparov's \(KK\)-theory is the most well-studied bivariant \(K\)-theory and behaves well on separable \(C^*\)-algebras. Connes-Higson's \(E\)-theory extends several good properties of \(KK\)-theory to non-separable \(C^*\)-algebras as was studied from the perspective of triangulated categories in the thesis of \textit{A. Thom} [Connective \(E\)-theory and bivariant homology for \(C^*\)-algebras. PhD Thesis, Münster (2003; Zbl 1030.46100)]. One of the motivating problems for the paper under review is to extend the \(KK\)-category beyond separable \(C^*\)-algebras; a problem motivated by the existence of more general limits. In this interesting paper, we find a construction of a category \(KK_\infty\) which is a colocalization of the category of non commutative spectra introduced by the author [\textit{S. Mahanta}, J. Topol. Anal. 7, No. 1, 135--165 (2015; Zbl 1317.46053)]. The homotopy category of non commutative spectra coincides with the suspension stable homotopy category \(\Sigma\mathrm{Ho}^{C^*}\) on separable \(C^*\)-algebras. The author proves several structural results about the category of non commutative spectra and \(KK_\infty\). The former behaves well with respect to colocalizations of strongly self-absorbing \(C^*\)-algbras and \(\mathbb{K}\), \(KK_\infty\) is defined as the colocalization of the category of non commutative spectra in \(\mathbb{K}\). A corollary of these constructions is that \(KK\) is topological. The triangulated category \(hKK_\infty\) allows for more elbow room on the side of objects, allowing for small products and coproducts. Moreover, much of the structure in \(KK\) remains; the author proves Bott periodicity and constructs a bootstrap class on which the UCT holds.
