The paper is concerned with the global exact boundary controllability for general first-order quasilinear hyperbolic systems. The work may be characterized as follows. The controlling time can be significantly reduced compared with previous results. However, the result of the paper is feasible only to homogeneous systems. Moreover, the global exact boundary controllability is established only for the case of two-sided boundary controls (which is emphasized in the paper). It is also noticed that the global one-sided exact boundary controllability or the two-sided one with less controls can not be achieved using the method of simple waves applied by the authors.
