In their recent study of the group \(C^\ast\)-algebra of a certain solvable Lie group, the authors [Adv. Math. 272, 252--307 (2015; Zbl 1321.46057)] introduced a class of \(C^\ast\)-algebras called \textit{almost \(C_0(\mathcal{K})\)-\(C^\ast\)-algebras}, \(\mathcal{K}\) being the algebra of compact operators on a Hilbert space. In the paper under review, the authors consider a class of exponential solvable Lie groups \(G_{n,\mu}\) whose Lie algebras are extensions of the Heisenberg Lie algebras by the reals and show that the \(C^\ast (G_{n,\mu})\) are almost \(C_0(\mathcal{K})\)-\(C^\ast\)-algebras. For this, they determine the coadjoint orbit structure and analyse the unitary dual of these groups. The central part of the paper deals with the understanding of the open orbits \textit{vis-à-vis} the \(C^\ast (\mathcal{K})\) conditions.
