A Banach space is said to be \emph{Grothendieck} if every \(w^*\)-convergent sequence in \(X^*\) is weakly convergent. In general, this property does not pass to subspaces. However, it is inherited if \(Y\subset X\) is \emph{\(w^*\)-extensible} (meaning that for every \(w^*\)-convergent sequence \((y_n^*)\subset Y^*\) there exists a subsequence \((y_{n_k}^*)\) and a \(w^*\)-convergent sequence \((x_k^*)\subset X^*\) such that \(x_k^*|_Y=y_{n_k}^*\)). In this short and nicely written paper, the authors provide a sufficient condition for \(Y\) to be \(w^*\)-extensible that only depends on the quotient \(X/Y\), and that it is satisfied for instance if \(X/Y\) is weakly Lindelöf determined or weak Asplund. As a consequence, they obtain that if \(X\) is Grothendieck and \(X/Y\) is reflexive, then \(Y\) is Grothendieck. That result answers a question posed by \textit{M. González} and \textit{T. Kania} [Jpn. J. Math. (3) 16, No. 2, 247--313 (2021; Zbl 1491.46009)].
