The authors study a standard model for the spatial spread of an epidemic involving n different types of individuals. They show that the asymptotic speed of propagation is the minimum speed at which wave solutions exist. One crucial assumption is that the contact distribution is exponentially dominated in the tail, because otherwise the epidemic will spread too fast to eventually propagate at a finite speed. These results extend known results for one-type and host-vector epidemics.
