The author considers precompact groups that are sequential. There are three principal results. The first one answers Question 4.8 of [\textit{D. Dikranjan} et al., J. Math. Anal. Appl. 412, No. 1, 505--519 (2014; Zbl 1308.54023)]: if a countable group is single sequence precompact and sequential then it is metrizable (an ss-precompact group carries the finest precompact topology that makes some distinguished sequence converge to the neutral element). The second one shows that consistently every countable precompact and sequential group is actually Fréchet; this holds in the \(\aleph_2\)-Cohen model. The third one is a consistent example, from \(\lozenge\), of a countably compact group that is Fréchet but does not have Arkhangel\('\)skiĭ's property \(\alpha_3\); Fréchet groups do posses property \(\alpha_4\), see [\textit{P. J. Nyikos}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 83, 793--801 (1981; Zbl 0474.22001)].
