The generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation \[ u_t+u_x+u_{xxx}+\left(\frac1p u^p\right)_x=0 \] for supercritical exponents \(p>5\) may develop singularities in a finite time as numerical experiments suggest. The authors study numerically related models with introduction of high frequency temporal oscillations either in nonlinearity or in boundary conditions. Fourier-spectral scheme and Legendre-Galerkin spectral element method have been used in computations. These experiments show that controlling the blowup in those manners seems more efficient than by adding dissipation or higher order dispersion terms.
