A nonlinear elliptic problem involving the gradient on a half space (Q6043587): Difference between revisions

The authors consider a perturbation of the boundary-value problem \[ \begin{cases} -\Delta u = \vert \nabla u \vert^p &\text{ in }\mathbb{R}_{+}^N \\ u=0 &\text { on }\partial \mathbb{R}_{+}^N, \end{cases}\tag{1} \] where \(\mathbb{R}_{+}^N = \left\{ \left(x_1,\ldots,x_n\right) \mid x_n >0 \right\}\) and \(4/3 < p < 2\). As a particular case, the problem \[ \begin{cases} -\Delta u = \left( 1+g(x) \right) \vert \nabla u \vert^p &\text{ in }\mathbb{R}_{+}^N \\ u=0 &\text { on }\partial \mathbb{R}_{+}^N, \end{cases}\tag{2} \] is considered, under suitable assumption on the bounded function \(g\). The authors prove the following existence result: Theorem. Suppose that \(4/3<p<2\) and \(g\) is a bounded, Hölder-continuous function such that \[ \lim_{R \to +\infty} \sup \left\{ \vert g(x) \vert \mid \vert x \vert > R, \; x_N \geq 0 \right\} =0. \] Then a non-trivial classical solution of (2) exists. The proof of this theorem is based on a fixed-point argument.
