For any Lie algebroid \((A,m)\) the chain complex is defined as the shifted multiderivation complex \(C_{def}^n(A)=\mathop{Der}^{n-1}(A)\) whose differential equals the Gerstenhaber bracket with the Lie bracket: \(\delta(D)=[m,D]\). In the case of Lie algebra \(A=\mathfrak{g}\), the cohomology of this complex coincides with the usual Lie algebra cohomology \(H^*(\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g})\) with coefficients in the adjoint representation. In general, even when the adjoint representation is lacking, the low degree cohomology of this complex retain the usual meaning: \(H^0_{def}(A)\) is the center of the Lie algebra of sections of \(A\), \(H^1_{def}(A)\) is the Lie algebra of outer derivations of \(A\), and \(H^2_{def}(A)\) controls the deformations. At the end of the paper the authors relate the cohomology \(H^*_{def}(A)\) to the known structures, like multiderivations on tangent and cotangent bundles, foliations and Poisson manifolds.
