This paper is a comprehensive study of the connections between homogeneous wavelets and framelets with nonhomogeneous wavelets and framelets as well as their connections to refinable structures. The author obtains almost complete answers to these questions. In particular, the results on homogeneous framelets in [\textit{N. Atreas} et al., Appl. Comput. Harmon. Anal. 36, No. 1, 51--62 (2014; Zbl 1294.42004); J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 22, No. 4, 854--877 (2016; Zbl 1348.42030)] as well as those of the author in [``Framelets and wavelets: Algorithms, analysis and applications'', (2016), \url{http://www.ualberta.ca/ \(\sim\)bhan/bookfw.html}] are particular cases of those obtained in this paper. The article is organized as follows: Section 1 is introductory. Section 2 reviews some known results on shift-invariant subspaces of \(L_2(\mathbb R^d)\), the Schur decomposition for Hermite matrices of measurable functions, and singular value decomposition for general matrices of measurable functions. Section 3 studies the connections of homogeneous framelets and homogeneous tight framelets with nonhomogeneous ones, and with refinable structures. The intrinsic relation between nonhomogeneous tight framelets and refinable structures is presented in Section 3. Section 4 links homogeneous dual framelets to nonhomogeneous dual framelets. Section 5 discusses the relations between homogeneous wavelets and nonhomogeneous wavelets with a refinable structure.
