A compactly supported function \(\phi\) defined on \(\mathbb{R}\) is called a componentwise polynomial if there exists an open set \(G\) such that the Lebesgue measure of \(\mathbb{R}\setminus G\) is zero and the restriction of \(\phi\) on any connected open component of \(G\) coincides with some polynomial. The main result in this paper is as follows. Theorem. Let \(H(\xi)= \sum_{k\in \mathbb{Z}} h(k)e^{-ik\xi}\) be a \(2\pi\)-periodic trigonometric polyomial with \(H(0)= 1\). Suppose that \(\phi\) is a compactly supported non-trivial componentwise polynomial function satisfying the equation \(\phi(x)= M\sum_{k\in \mathbb{Z}} h(k)\phi(Mx- k)\) a.e. \(x\in \mathbb{R}\) in the sense of almost everywhere with the dilation factor \(M= 2\). Then \(\phi\) must be a finite linear combination of the integer shifts of some \(B\)-spline.
