The following question was raised by \textit{J. C. Díaz} and \textit{S. Dineen} [Ark. Mat. 36, No.~1, 87--96 (1998; Zbl 0929.46036)]: if \(X\) and \(Y\) are complex Banach spaces and \(X^{\ast}\) and \(Y^{\ast}\) are topologically isomorphic, is it true that the respective spaces of continuous \(m\)-homogeneous polynomials \(\mathcal{P}(^{m}X)\) and \(\mathcal{P}(^{m}Y)\) are topologically isomorphic for all \(m\)? In a more recent paper, \textit{D.\,Carando, D.\,García} and \textit{M.\,Maestre} [Adv.\ Math.\ 197, No.\,2, 607--629 (2005; Zbl 1094.46027) investigated a kind of converse of this problem: given open sets \(U\subset X\) and \(V\subset Y\) and \(\mathcal{F}(U)\) and \(\mathcal{F}(V)\) two Fréchet algebras of holomorphic functions of bounded type on \(U\) and \(V\), respectively, if \(\mathcal{F}(U)\) and \(\mathcal{F}(V)\) are topologically isomorphic algebras, is it true that \(X\) and \(Y~\)(or \(X^{\ast}\) and \(Y^{\ast}\)) are topologically isomorphic? In the paper under review, the authors deal with some open questions from the last mentioned paper. Besides, as the title suggests, the paper is devoted to the investigation of some envelopes of open sets in dual Banach spaces which are connected to extending holomorphic functions. Among several results, the authors offer various interesting examples of absolutely convex sets showing that the extension is in many cases not possible. In the last section, some challenging open questions related to the subject are proposed.
