This paper has two main objectives. The first of these is to construct Gibbs measures and to prove their invariance under the flow of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, both focusing and defocusing, in the presence of a harmonic potential. Results are obtained in the focusing case for cubic nonlinearity, and in the defocusing case for any odd nonlinearity. The authors note that physical models involve cubic or quintic nonlinearities. The second aim is to prove global well-posedness for the \(L^2\) critical and super-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation on \(\mathbb R\), with or without harmonic potential, for data of low regularity.
