The authors study the geometry of cylinders \(M\times\mathbb{R}\) where \(M\) is a compact Riemannian manifold. Assuming that \(M\) is not conformal to a round sphere and that \(M\times\mathbb{R}\) is conformally Einstein with positive scalar curvature, they prove that \(M\) is also Einstein with positive scalar curvature. Next, they restrict to the case when the dimension of \(M\) is \(5\), and they assume that \(M\times\mathbb{R}\) admits an almost Hermitian structure of type \(W_1+W_4\) (according to the Gray-Hervella classification [\textit{A. Gray} and \textit{L. M. Hervella}, Ann. Mat. Pura Appl., IV. Ser. 123, 35--58 (1980; Zbl 0444.53032)]) which is not of type \(W_4\). Then they prove that \(M\) is Sasaki-Einstein, and conversely that for every Sasaki-Einstein \(5\)-manifold \(M\), the cylinder \(M\times\mathbb{R}\) admits a \(W_1+W_4\) structure.
