Critical non-linear dispersive equations: global existence, scattering, blow-up and universal profiles (Q1935099): Difference between revisions

The purpose of this paper is to review some recent results of the author and his collaborative team on global solutions, scattering, and finite time blow-up to critical nonlinear dispersive equations such as the nonlinear Schrödinger and wave equations. The spatial dimension of these nonlinear equations is three or higher. The critical PDE is defined in the way, when the norm in homogeneous Sobolev spaces is invariant under the scaling transformation, which transforms the linear and nonlinear part of the PDE in the same way. The new progress in the analysis of these problems was obtained by F. Merle and the author using the concentration-compactness and rigidity theorem methods, inspired by the earlier elliptic theory and Bourgain's induction on energy method. In particular, the author lists a number of theorems for these two PDEs about existence of global solutions if the energy norm for initial data is below the soliton energy norm and a finite-time blowup in the opposite case. The author outlines the main ideas behind the proof of these theorems and give references to recent extensions.
