A natural question about any kind of algebra, triple system or pair \(\mathcal{U}\) is those about whether a minimal ideal is either simple or trivial. If \(\mathcal{U}\) is an associative algebra, an affirmative answer to this question can be given as consequence of Andrunakievich's Lemma, while for Jordan and linear Jordan algebras a different approach to get also an affirmative answer was given by \textit{S. N. Nam} and \textit{K. McCrimmon} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 88, 579--583 (1983; Zbl 0519.17010)], and \textit{Yu. A. Medvedev} [Sib. Math. J. 28, No. 6, 928--936 (1987); translation from Sib. Mat. Zh. 28, No. 6(166), 81--89 (1987; Zbl 0655.17012)], respectively. In the paper under review, the authors study the above problem in the framework of quadratic Jordan triple systems \(J\). By developing combinatorial methods on any ideal of \(J\) and by involving in their arguments the heart of \(J\), they finally show that any minimal ideal of \(J\) is either simple or trivial. Later, they apply this result to give also an affirmative answer to the above mentioned problem in the setups of quadratic Jordan algebras and Jordan pairs.
