In this paper, the authors have studied the local exact controllability and the exponential stability of the fifth-order KdV equation on a periodic domain \(T = R/(2\pi Z)\) \[\partial_tu -\partial^5_x u + c_1u\partial^3_x u + c_2\partial_x u\partial^2_x u + c_3u\partial_xu = F(t,x), \ \ \ (*)\] where the coefficients \(c_i (i = 1, 2, 3)\) are real constants \(c_1 \neq 0,\) the source term \(F\) is a control and \(u(t, x)\) is the unknown real-valued function. It is proved that there are infinite source terms \(F_k\) where \(k \in [3, 4]\) such that the equation \((*)\) is locally exactly controllable and locally exponentially stable in \(H^s(T)\) with \(s \geq \frac{3}{4} \). Moreover, when \(k = 4\), the equation \((*)\) is locally exactly controllable and locally exponentially stable in \(L^2(T)\). This results relax the range of the index \(s\) in the work of \textit{C. Flores} and \textit{D. L. Smith} [ESAIM, Control Optim. Calc. Var. 25, Paper No. 38, 28 p. (2019; Zbl 1437.35610)], where they have established the local exact controllability and the local exponential stability of the equation \((*)\) in \(H^s(T)\) with \(s > 2\).
