Let \(x\in\mathbb{R}^n\), \(x= (x_1,x_2,\dots, x_n)\), and let \(f\) be a complex-valued function of bounded variation in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). The authors consider both the Fourier transform of \[ f:\widehat f(x)= \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} f(u)\,e^{i(x, u)}du \] and the trigonometric series generated by \[ f: s(x)= \sum_{k\in\mathbb{Z}^n} f(k)\,e^{i(x,k)}. \] In order to compare the values of \(\widehat f\) and \(s\) in \(0< |x_j|\leq \pi\), \(j= 1,2,\dots,n\), they introduce a suitable notion of ``mixed Tonelli variation'' (VM) and prove that, if \(f\in\text{VM}\) and \(\lim_{|x|\to\infty}f(x)= 0\), then \(\sup_{0<|x_j|\leq\pi}|\widehat f(x)- s(x)|\ll \text{VM}(f)\), where the integral and the sum are treated in the Cauchy sense. They also apply the result to obtain conditions for the integrability of multiple trigonometric series.
