Let \(X\) be a complex Banach space and \(B(X)\) the algebra of all bounded linear operators on \(X\). Suppose that \(T\in B(X)\). The inner local spectral radius of \(T\) at \(x\in X\), \(\iota _{T}(x)\), is defined by \[ \iota _{T}(x)\mathrel{:\mkern-0.25mu=} \sup \{\varepsilon \geq 0:x\in \chi_{T}(\mathbb{C}\backslash D(0,\varepsilon ))\}, \] where \(D(0,\varepsilon )\) denotes the open disc of radius \(\varepsilon \) centered at \(0\), and \linebreak \(\chi _{T}(\mathbb{C}\backslash D(0,\varepsilon ))\) the so-called global spectral subspace of \(T\) associated with \(\mathbb{C}\backslash D(0,\varepsilon )\), that is, the set of all \(x\in X\) for which there is an \(X\)-valued analytic function \(f\) on \(D(0,\varepsilon )\) such that \((\lambda -T)f(\lambda )=x\) for all \(\lambda \in D(0,\varepsilon )\). Let now \(X\) denote an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space. The authors characterize surjective, additive maps \(\varphi :B(X)\rightarrow B(X)\) which preserve operators of inner local spectral radius zero at points of \(X\). The paper has three sections. In the first two sections, the authors introduce notations and provide some preliminaries. The main result of the paper, which is stated and proved in the third section, is as follows: Theorem. A surjective, additive map \(\varphi :B(X)\rightarrow B(X)\) satisfies \[ \iota _{T}(x)=0\quad \text{if and only if}\quad \iota _{\varphi (T)}(x)=0 \] for all \(x\in X\) and \(T\in B(X)\) if and only if there is a nonzero \(c\in \mathbb{C}\) such that \(\varphi (T)=cT\) for all \(T\in B(X)\).
