This article, presents a purely algebraic version in terms of vertex algebras of the chiral operads introduced by Beilinson and Drinfeld. The chiral algebra, such as defined by Beilinson-Drinfeld, is defined in terms of \(D\)-modules on any smooth algebraic curve, so that the vertex algebra is a weakly translation covariant chiral algebra on the affine line. This construction naturally leads to defining the vertex algebra cohomology complex. Such an object follows from the classical way of obtaining a cohomology complex associated to a linear operad. In particular, the low vertex algebra cohomology is majored by the variational Poisson cohomology. Using this and a computation of the variational Poisson cohomology, the Casimirs and derivations of the vertex algebra of \(N\) bosons are computed. The plan of the paper is as follows. First, it provides a survey of vector superspaces and symmetric group (section 2) as well as superoperads (section 3). These two sections form the right formalism to introduce operads governing Lie (conformal) superalgebras and the Chiral operad (sections 4, 5 and section 6). Section 6 and section 7 investigate vertex algebra modules and cohomology complexes, as well as the associated graded of the chiral operad. Finally, the last sections present the cooperad of \(n\)-graphs, leading to the operad governing Poisson vertex superalgebras (section 9 and section 10). The very last section presents the variational Poisson cohomology and the Poisson vertex algebra cohomology.
