The paper deals with modular categories [cf. \textit{V. G. Turaev}, Int. J. Mod. Phys. B 6, No.~11--12, 1807--1824 (1992; Zbl 0798.57002)]. Using Galois properties of corresponding modular data [\textit{J. de Boer} and \textit{J. Goeree}, Commun. Math. Phys. 139, No. 2, 267--304 (1991; Zbl 0760.57002); \textit{A. Coste} and \textit{T. Gannon}, ``Remarks on Galois symmetry in rational conformal field theories'', Phys. Lett. B 323, 316--321 (1994)], the authors classify unitary modular categories with at most four simple objects. As a result they obtain 35 such unitary modular categories, which all can be written as products of 10 prime unitary modular categories. Methods and results of the paper are important for the study of modular categories and for applications in theoretical physics, e.g., in the theory of fractional quantum Hall liquid.
