Let \(M\) be a closed smooth compact manifold without boundary and \(E\) be a positive elliptic pseudo-differential operator on \(M\). By introducing suitable Sobolev spaces on \(M\times M\) adapted to \(E\), the authors give sufficient conditions on Schwartz integral kernels in order to ensure that the corresponding integral operators belong to different Schatten classes. Then they introduce notions of invariant operators, Fourier multipliers and full-matrix symbol relative to \(E\) and give some applications to the characterization of Schatten classes.
