The author treats the Cauchy problem for the semilinear damped wave equation with absorption: \[ u_{tt}-\triangle u +u_{t}+| u| ^{p-1}=0 \quad\text{in }{\mathbb R}^{N} \] with \(N=3,4\). He continues to study that the solution of the problem is similar to a solution of the corresponding heat equation asymptotically as \(t\rightarrow \infty\). This paper is one in a sequence of papers on this subject. The special value of \(\rho\), i.e. \(\rho_{c}(N)=1+\frac{2}{N}\), is called the critical exponent. In this paper the author improves and develops the results for the super critical case (\(\rho_{c}(N)< \rho\) in the preceding paper, \textit{R. Ikehata, K. Nishihara} and \textit{H. Zhao} [J. Differ. Equations 226, No. 1, 1--29 (2006; Zbl 1116.35094)]. I refer to it in the abbreviation, (INZ). (INZ) is referred to the abstract of the paper as [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 313, 598--610 (2006; Zbl 1160.35479)] by mistake. For the super critical case the solution \(u\) is expected to behave like a solution of the heat equation as \(t\rightarrow \infty \). Let \[ \rho_{c}(N)<\rho\begin{cases} \leq 1+\frac{4}{N} &(N=3) \\ <1+\frac{4}{N} &(N=4). \end{cases}. \] Let \(G(t,x)\) be the Gauss kernel. Then Theorem 2.3 (the main result) states that \[ \| u(t,\cdot)-\theta_{0}G(t,\cdot)\| _{L^{p}}={o}(t^{-\frac{N}{2}(1-\frac{1}{p})}),\quad 1\leq p\leq \infty \;\text{as}\;t\rightarrow \infty , \] where \[ \theta_{0}=\int _{{\mathbb R}^{N}}(u_{0}+u_{1})\,dx-\int_{0}^{\infty} \int _{{\mathbb R}^{N}}| u| ^{\rho-1}u(t,x)\,dx\,dt. \] The proof is obtained by improvement of the method and calculation in (INZ), which was done by the weighted energy method and the explicit formula of solutions. The outline of (INZ) is summarized in Section 1. But the reader should read (INZ) before reading this paper.
