For a star body \(K\subset \mathbb R^n\) and \(0 <p<1\), the non-symmetric \(L_p\) intersection body \(I_p^+K\) and the symmetric \(L_p\) intersection body \(I_p K\) are defined by \[ \rho( I_p^+K, u)^p = \frac 1{\Gamma(1-p)} \int_{K\cap u^+}| u\cdot x| ^{-p}\, dx \] and \(I_p K= I_p^+K\, {\widetilde +}_p\, I_p+(-K)\), where \(\rho\) denotes the radial function, \({\widetilde +}_p\) denotes \(L_p\) radial addition, \(u\in S^{n-1}\), and \(u^+=\{x\in\mathbb R^n: x\cdot u \geq 0\}\). Both are generalizations of intersection bodies within the dual \(L_p\) Brunn Minkowski theory. The author establishes many fundamental results on \(L_p\) intersection bodies. In particular, he obtains the following Busemann-Petty type result: If \(K\) is a non-symmetric \(L_p\) intersection body, then \(I_p^+K \subset I_p^+L\) implies that the volume of \(K\) is smaller than the volume of \(L\). Thus a sufficient condition to compare volumes of non-symmetric bodies is obtained, whereas the solution of the original Busemann-Petty problem gives only conditions for symmetric bodies. In addition, the author proves injectivity results along with their stability versions for \(L_p\) intersection body operators. He proves that up to positive absolute constants, symmetric \(L_p\) intersection bodies are equivalent to intersection bodies for all symmetric convex bodies of volume one, and generalizes a theorem of \textit{D. Hensley} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 79, 619--625 (1980; Zbl 0439.52008)] to \(L_p\) intersection bodies. He also generalizes ellipsoid formulas by Busemann, Guggenheimer, and \textit{E. Lutwak} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 159, 18--26 (1991; Zbl 0734.52002)] to \(L_p\)~intersection bodies.
