Lie and Courant algebroids on foliated manifolds (Q420566): Difference between revisions

This is an exposition of the subject, which was developed in the author's papers [Mediterr. J. Math. 7, No. 4, 415--444 (2010; Zbl 1210.53036); Bull. Math. Soc. Sci. Math. Roum., Nouv. Sér. 53(101), No. 2, 177--183 (2010; Zbl 1224.53053)]. If \(A\) is a Lie algebroid over a foliated manifold \({(M, {\mathcal{F}})}\), a foliation of \(A\) is a Lie subalgebroid \(B\) with anchor image \({T{\mathcal{F}}}\) and such that \(A/B\) is locally equivalent with Lie algebroids over the slice manifolds of \(\mathcal{F}\). The author extends various results from the theory of foliations (cohomology, characteristic classes, deformations, etc.) to subalgebroids of Lie algebroids that generalize the tangent integrable distributions, and gives several examples. He also introduces foliated Courant algebroids (the Courant algebroids were first considered in [\textit{Z. Liu, A. Weinstein} and \textit{P. Xu}, J. Differ. Geom. 45, No. 3, 547--574 (1997; Zbl 0885.58030)]), and shows how to extend from the Lie algebroid case the construction of an extension of a transversal-Courant algebroid \(E\) on a foliated manifold \((M,\mathcal{F})\) to a Courant algebroid structure on \(T\mathcal{F}\oplus T^\ast\mathcal{F}\oplus E\), using a decomposition \(TM=T\mathcal{F}\oplus Q\).
