Let \(M^4\) denote a compact oriented 4-dimensional manifold and \(g\) a Riemannian metric on \(M^4\) with scalar curvature \(s\) and sectional curvature \(K.\) For each plane \(P\in T_pM\) the biorthogonal curvature of \(P\) at a point \(a\) is the number \(K^\perp (P)=\frac{K(P)+K(P^\perp)}{2}\), moreover the author introduce the number \(K_1^\perp(p)=\min\{K^\perp(P): P\text{ is a 2-plane in } T_pM\}\). In this framework they investigate the pinching problem on 4-dimensional compact manifolds replacing sectional curvature by biorthogonal curvature and classify 4-dimensional compact oriented Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative biorthogonal curvature. In particular they prove that if \( M^4\) has finite fundamental group and positive scalar curvature \(s\) satisfying \(K_1^\perp(p)\geq \frac {s}{24}\) then either \(M^4\) is diffeomhorphic to a sphere \(S^4\), or \(M^4\) is isometric to a complex projective space \(\mathbb{CP}^2\) with the Fubini-Study metric. This result can be viewed as a partial answer to the Yau Conjecture on pinching theorem for 4-dimensional compact manifolds.
