We may focus on the main results obtained by van den Dungen as in the following. \par (Theorem 2.10). For a regular symmetric operator on a Hilbert module (over a $C^*$-algebra), it is self-adjoint if and only if there exists an adequate approximate identity for the operator, in the sense of \textit{B. Mesland} and \textit{A. Rennie} [J. Funct. Anal. 271, No. 9, 2460--2538 (2016; Zbl 1345.19003)]. \par (Theorem 3.5). Regular and self-adjoint is the perturbation (as plus) of a regular self-adjoint operator $D$ on a Hilbert module by a densely defined, locally bounded, symmetric operator $M$, with respect to an adequate approximate identity for $D$. \par (Theorem 4.2). Both an (even or odd) unbounded Kasparov module for a regular self-adjoint (odd or not) operator $D$ and that for the perturbation of $D$ by such closed symmetric $M$ represent the same $KK$-theory class, under a suitable condition, as stability under locally bounded perturbations. \par Moreover, there is an application to the odd $KK$-theory, doubled up. \par Finally, considered is the natural example of a locally bounded perturbation of an unbounded Kasparov module, arising from a symmetric unbounded multiplier on an algebra, non-unital.
