In this paper, the authors study the well-posedness of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem for the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations and the isentropic Navier-Stokes equations in the inhomogeneous Sobolev space. Also, they are able to prove that there does not exist any classical solution in the inhomogeneous Sobolev space for any small time. From these facts it follows that the homogeneous Sobolev spacees are crucial in the study of the well-posedness theory of classical solutions to the Cauchy problem of compressible Navier-Stokes equations in the presence of a vacuum at far fields. The authors provide an interesting historical survey on the topic under consideration. The bibliography which gives an appropriate overview on the field contains 40 items.
