The authors consider the second-order perturbed state-dependent sweeping process problem \begin{align*} -d\dot{u}(t)\in N\left( C\left( t,u(t)\right),\dot{u}(t)\right) +F\left( t,u\left( t\right) ,\dot{u}(t)\right), \\ u(T_{0})=a,\dot{u}(T_{0})\in C\left( T_{0},a\right) \end{align*} in a real Hilbert space, where $N$ denotes the normal cone. In [Sémin. Anal. Convexe, Univ. Sci. Tech. Languedoc 18, (1988; Zbl 0676.47029)], \textit{C. Castaing} studied the unperturbed problem, in which $C$ was time-independent, with left-hand side $-\frac{d\dot{u}}{\left\vert d\dot{u}\right\vert }$, where $\left\vert d\dot{u}\right\vert $ is the variation measure. It is proven here that there exists a solution to problem (P), under the assumptions $C$ has prox-regular and relatively ball-compact values and ``moves in a bounded variation way with respect to time and in a Lipschitz way with respect to the state,'' and the multivalued perturbation $F$ has closed and convex values, is scalarly upper semicontinuous and satisfies a weak linear growth condition. The definition of solution used here only requires $\dot{u}$ to be of bounded variation rather than absolutely continuous, which allows for jumps. The proof uses a convergence result found in [\textit{M. D. P. Monteiro Marques}, Differential inclusions in nonsmooth mechanical problems. Shocks and dry friction. Basel: Birkhäuser (1993; Zbl 0802.73003)] rather than the Ascoli-Arzela lemma used in some previous articles. The result is applied to an existence problem in the theory of quasi-variational evolution inequalities.
