Apart from the classical Hörmander's wavefront set, several other types of wavefront sets are used in describing micro-local properties of functions or distributions. Sobolev type wavefront sets are a prominent example. In the recent study of wavefront sets several time-frequency representations are used, such as the wavelet transform and the short-time Fourier transform [\textit{S. Pilipović} and \textit{M. Vuletić}, Tohoku Math. J. (2) 58, No. 3, 369--391 (2006; Zbl 1122.46021); \textit{S. Pilipović} et al., J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 17, No. 3, 374--407 (2011; Zbl 1231.35329); \textit{L. Rodino} and \textit{P. Wahlberg}, Monatsh. Math. 173, No. 4, 625--655 (2014; Zbl 1366.42030)]. In this paper the authors give a characterization of Sobolev wavefront sets via the shearlet transform, see \textit{G. Kutyniok} and \textit{D. Labate} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 361, No. 5, 2719--2754 (2009; Zbl 1169.42012)], and \textit{P. Grohs} [Monatsh. Math. 164, No. 4, 393--426 (2011; Zbl 1234.42015)] for the description of the classical wavefront set via the shearlet transform. In addition, they establish the connection between Sobolev wavefront sets, 2-microlocal spaces, and local Hölder spaces through the asymptotic properties of the shearlet transform.
