The failure [\textit{D. A. Jorgensen} and \textit{L. M. Şega}, Adv. Math. 188, No. 2, 470-490 (2004; Zbl 1090.13009)] of the Auslander conjecture [Selected works of Maurice Auslander. Part 1. Providence: AMS (1999; Zbl 1007.01021)] motivates the consideration of the class of AC rings that do satisfy Auslander's condition. The authors show that an AC Artin algebra that is left-Gorenstein is also right-Gorenstein. Then, the Auslander-Reiten Conjecture [\textit{M. Auslander} and \textit{I. Reiten}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 52, 69-74 (1975; Zbl 0337.16004)] is proved for AC rings. Further, Auslander's \(G\)-dimension is shown to be functorial for AC rings that are commutative or have a dualizing complex. To place the work into proper perspective, certain aspects of the homological conjectures have been recapitulated.
