For a graded algebra \(\Lambda\), the authors are considering many subcategories of graded modules, mainly the categories \(gr_0(\Lambda)\) of \(\Lambda\)-modules generated in degree 0, and \({\mathcal L}(\Lambda)\) of \(\Lambda\)-modules that have linear presentations. These subcategories are described in some cases. Also, for \(\Lambda\) a quadratic monomial algebra, there is an equivalence between \({\mathcal K}(\Lambda)\) and \({\mathcal L}(\Lambda)\). Other equivalences are also considered. For the case when \(\Lambda\) is a graded finite dimensional algebra, the subcategories have almost split sequences and there is a description of the projective and injective objects and of the almost split sequences in \(gr_0(\Lambda)\) and \({\mathcal L}(\Lambda)\). If \(\Lambda\) is a graded finite dimensional algebra, the finitistic projective dimension of \({\mathcal K}(\Lambda)\) is calculated and some bounds are given.
