In this paper, solutions of tridiagonal linear systems are dealt with. It is treated the inversion of some special tridiagonal matrices both when the elements are scalar and when the entries are square matrices of quaternions. It should be remarked that the core part of the paper is literally the same as the whole paper by \textit{C. Costa} and \textit{R. Serôdio} [``A footnote on quaternion block-tridiagonal systems'', ETNA, Electron. Trans. Numer. Anal. 9, 53--55, electronic only (1999; Zbl 0952.65030)]. Some minor changes can be observed like using different letters and adding references. In fact, Sections 3, 4, 5 and 6 are, essentially, a copy of the afore mentioned paper. Some letters were changed, but in some cases wrongly. In Section 4, the capital letter \(A\), with two distinct fonts, was substituted by a unique \(R\), and, in the Example, Section 6, some letters were changed, without any ambiguity, but the quaternion factor \(j\) was, erroneously, demoted to an index. Some references were added and only one was replaced by reference [12], where the author's name and the book's date are wrong. The author's own contributions are the remaining Sections 1, 2 and 7. They are poorly written and the assertions about computational advantages are not sound. Also the way of referencing is misleading. Reference [11] is not related with the topic of the paper and the ``treatise work'' [\textit{F. D. Burgoyne}, Math. Gaz. 48, 496 (1964)] is a mere one page note, where a conjecture is presented.
