Motivated by Arnold's result on the miniversal deformations of square matrices under similarity [\textit{V. I. Arnol'd}, ``On matrices depending on parameters'', Russ. Math. Surv. 26(1971), No. 2, 29--43 (1972); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 26, No. 2(158), 101--114 (1971; Zbl 0259.15011)], the authors consider the miniversal deformations under congruence. Main Theorem (Theorem 2.2): Let \(A\) be a square complex matrix. For matrices \(A+E\) that are sufficiently close to \(A\), there exists \(S(E)\) which is nonsingular and holomorphic at zero, such that \(S(E)^T(A+E)S(E)\) takes a special canonical form. A more abstract form is stated in Theorem 3.1 .
