Let \(G\) be a countable discrete group and \(\phi: G\rightarrow G\) an endomorphism. Two elements \(x,y\in G\) are said to be \(\phi\)-conjugate or twisted conjugate, iff there exists \(g \in G\) with \( y=g x \phi(g^{-1})\). The number of \(\phi\)-conjugacy classes is called the Reidemeister number of an endomorphism \(\phi\) and is denoted by \(R(\phi)\). If \(\phi\) is the identity map then the \(\phi\)-conjugacy classes are the usual conjugacy classes in the group \(G\). We say that a group \(G\) has \(R_\infty\)-property if all of its automorphisms \(\phi\) satisfy \(R(\phi)=\infty\). The work of discovering which groups have the \(R_\infty\)-property was begun by [\textit{A. Fel'shtyn} and \textit{R. Hill}, \(K\)-Theory 8, No. 4, 367--393 (1994; Zbl 0814.58033)]. It was later shown by various authors that the following groups have the \(R_\infty\)-property : (1) non-elementary Gromov hyperbolic groups and relatively hyperbolic groups; (2) Baumslag-Solitar groups \(BS(m,n)\) except for \(BS(1,1)\) ; (3) generalized Baumslag-Solitar groups, that is, finitely generated groups which act on a tree with all edge and vertex stabilizers infinite cyclic; (4) some saturated weakly branch groups (including the Grigorchuk group and the Gupta-Sidki group); (5)the R. Thompson group F and \(T\), generalized Thompson's groups \(F_{n,0}\) and their finite direct products, Houghton's groups; (6) symplectic groups \(Sp(2n,\mathbb Z)\), the mapping class groups \(Mod_{S}\) of a compact surface \(S\) and the full braid groups \(B_n(S)\) on \(n\) strings of a compact surface \(S\) in the cases where \(S\) is either the compact disk \(D\), or the sphere \(S^2\) ; (7) irreducible lattices in a connected semisimple Lie group \(G\) with finite center and real rank at least 2; (8) extensions of \(\mathrm{SL}(n,\mathbb{Z})\), \(\mathrm{PSL}(n,\mathbb{Z})\), \(\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{Z})\), \(\mathrm{PGL}(n,\mathbb{Z})\), \(\mathrm{Sp}(2n,\mathbb{Z})\), \(\mathrm{PSp}(2n,\mathbb{Z})\), \(n>2\), by a countable abelian group, and normal subgroups of \(\mathrm{SL}(n,\mathbb{Z})\), \(n>2\), not contained in the center; (9) \(\mathrm{GL}(n,K)\), \(\mathrm{SL}(n,K)\), \(\mathrm{Sp}(2n, K)\) and \(O_n(K)\) i f \(n>2\) and \(K\) is an infinite integral domain which has zero characteristic and for which \(\mathrm{Aut}(K)\) is periodic; Chevalley groups over fields of zero characteristic which have finite transcendence degree over \(\mathbb{Q}\);\\ In an article under review the author widely generalizes the previously known results. He proves that a saturated weakly branch group \(G\) on an infinite spherically symmetric rooted tree \(T\) (i.e., a group which acts on \(T\) faithfully, level-transitively, with nontrivial rigid stabilizers of all vertices, and with a transitive action on sub-trees of some characteristic subgroups of all level stabilizers) has the property \(R_\infty\) in each of the following cases: (1) any element of \(Out(G)\) is of finite order; (2) for any \(\phi\) , the number of orbits on levels of the tree automorphism \(t\), such that \(\phi(g) = tgt^{-1}\), is uniformly bounded and \(G\) is weakly stabilizer transitive, i.e., the intersection of stabilizers of all vertices of any level, except for successors of one vertex of the previous level, acts transitively on these successors; (3) \(G\) is finitely generated, has prime branching numbers, and is weakly stabilizer transitive with some non-Abelian quotients of stabilizers (with no restrictions on automorphisms).
