The authors consider the following nonautonomous semilinear second order evolution equation \[ u_{tt}-(a(t,x)u_x)_x+b(t,x,u)u_t=0,\quad t\geq 0, x\in (0,1), \] with initial data \(u(0,x)=\phi_0(x), u_t(0,x)=\phi_1(x), x\in [0,1]\), and subject to generalized Wentzell boundary conditions \[ \begin{aligned} &u=0,\;\text{or}\;\;u_x=v_0,\;\text{or}\;\;u_{tt}-\alpha_0(t)u_x=w_0\quad \text{at}\;\;x=0,\\ &u_{tt}+\alpha_1(t)u_x=w_1\quad \text{at}\;\;x=1,\end{aligned} \] where \( a(t,\cdot)\in C^1([0,\infty);W^{1,\infty}(0,1))\) with \(\inf_{x\in (0,1)}a(t,x)> b\in C^1([0,\infty)\times [0,1]\times\mathbb R;[0,\infty))\); \(a_j\in C^1([0,\infty);[0,\infty))\). A global well-posedness theorem (in a classical sense) for the problem, via an operator theoretic approach, has been established. Moreover, they obtained sharp estimates for the evolution of the solution along the characteristic curves and the uniform exponential decay of the associated energies. It is noted by the authors that the results are still new even for the autonomous case.
