A characterisation of higher torsion classes
Higher homological algebra was introduced by \textit{O. Iyama} [Adv. Math. 210, No. 1, 22--50 (2007; Zbl 1115.16005)]. It deals with \(n\)-cluster tilting subcategories of abelian categories, where \(n\geq2\) is a fixed integer. All short exact sequences in such a subcategory are split, but it has nice exact sequences with \(n+2\) objects. \(n\)-torsion classes which are higher-dimensional version of torsion classes introduced by \textit{P. Jørgensen} [Int. Math. Res. Not. 2016, No. 13, 3880--3905 (2016; Zbl 1404.18023)]. One of the main results in the study of torsion classes asserts that a subcategory of an abelian category is a torsion class if and only if it is closed under extensions and quotients. In this paper, the authors prove the higher-dimensional version of this result. Let \(\mathcal{M}\) be an \(n\)-cluster tilting subcategory of an abelian length category \(\mathcal{A}\). They show that a subcategory \(\mathcal{T}\) of an \(n\)-cluster tilting subcategory \(\mathcal{M}\) is \(n\)-torsion if and only if it is closed under \(n\)-extensions and \(n\)-quotients. As an application, they show that the set of all \(n\)-torsion classes in \(n\)-cluster tilting subcategory \(\mathcal{M}\) is a complete lattice. Finally, they show that if a subcategory \(\mathcal{U}\) of an \(n\)-cluster tilting subcategory \(\mathcal{M}\) is closed under \(n\)-extensions with indecomposable end terms and all \(n\)-quotients, then \(\mathcal{U}\) is closed under all \(n\)-extensions. They apply these results to higher Auslander algebras of type \(A\) and higher Nakayama algebras of types \(A\) and \(A^\infty_\infty\) and classify \(n\)-torsion classes associated to these algebras.
