The authors use optimization to give bounds for the singular values, ratios of singular values, and rank of a square complex matrix \(A\), in terms of \(tr A\), \(tr A^ 2\), and \(tr A^*A\); where \(A^*\) denotes the adjoint of \(A\). Some of the results are similar to the known bounds for the eigenvalues, ratios of eigenvalues, and rank of \(A\) involving \(tr A\) and \(tr A^ 2\).
