Characterization of almost maximally almost-periodic groups
From MaRDI portal
Abstract: Let be an abelian group. We prove that a group admits a Hausdorff group topology such that the von Neumann radical of is non-trivial and finite iff has a non-trivial finite subgroup. If is a topological group, then if and only if is not dually embedded. In particular, for any Hausdorff group topology on .
